Game from 17 Nov 09

A few mistakes by both players in this game. The highlight for me was near the end when my opponent started to get rattled by the level of noise in the pavilion. He decided to launch a piece of tissue at his teammate who was sitting in the corner, going over his game with John Naylor. Of course, Sod's law meant the tissue landed straight on John's head! Like a gentleman, John chose to ignore it, as I tried not to burst out laughing.

  1. Thanks for the funny story and the game. I am glad that you did not accept the draw! I also won my game - a somewhat surprising win in the opinion of Bob, showing that you can be a peice ahead, give it up, be an exchange and a pawn down and still win in the end. Lots of BIG blunders going on there. But it means that the C team get a draw.

  2. Played James! You're certainly playing with some technique now.Getting hold of the pawn on d3 took a bit of effort as even when you do the capture he has threats switching between the centre and the b file. In the opening I think you missed a chance to overrun him in the centre with 5 e4 Nf6 6 Nc3. You would have got at least one pawn on the 5th rank and started squashing him! Anyway Well done.
